Embracing Self-Awareness
Journal entry 2018 Australia
I love life and the endless opportunities that are presented for me to grow and expand. A friend approached with a list of interpersonal attributes and asked me to tell her what I thought her strengths were. My response was, you realize that I will be honest and what you are asking for is my projection of what you reflect in me. Yes, that was understood and that is what she wanted. I could clearly see this had little value. This was not supporting healing. Doing her own inner work would be much more effective so I turned it around. I addressed each attribute by inviting them to share how they saw themselves. We looked at words like self-confidence and competence and how they had intertwined with their self-worth. As we examined each attribute I could feel the energy rising. I was simply holding the space, creating the structure for my friend to empower herself. At the end of our time together, she was aware of strengths she didn’t know she had. We dissolved stories and found truth. She had ideas of how to grow and expand using what she already had within to raise herself up. There is no greater gift than watching an individual blossom. I then sat down with her list and guided myself through the same process. It is a powerful way to examine how the four survival archetypes play out in our lives.
Knowing about the archetypes is awareness. The action is applying it to yourself. This is a brilliant way to expand and grow. Transmuting patterns has the potential to happen very quickly at this level. After one hour, my friend saw herself through different eyes.
I invite you to take the journey. You may be surprised by what is revealed. I know I was.
